India’s Capital Countenances Drinking Water
India’s capital New Delhi is facing a significant reduction in its drinking water supply, as the city government has announced that three treatment plants will be rendered ineffective due to flooding.
The recent incessant rainfall has caused the Yamuna river, which passes through the capital city and is home to 20 million residents, to overflow.
This has resulted in the river reaching its highest level in 45 years, primarily due to unusually heavy downpours in neighboring states such as Haryana to the north.

The city experienced significant rainfall during the weekend, resulting in flooding in low-lying regions. This situation compelled hundreds of individuals to find refuge in relief camps.

He mentioned that once the water level of the Yamuna River subsides, efforts will be made to resume operations at the three water treatment plants as quickly as possible.

Kejriwal also highlighted that the water level in the river might reach its peak later on Thursday, prompting the evacuation of individuals from flooded regions.

Over the weekend, Himachal Pradesh state was hit by flash floods, resulting in the destruction of a bridge and the complete washing away of multiple clusters of residential huts.

The forceful floodwaters caused significant damage to infrastructure and posed a threat to the safety and livelihoods of the affected communities.
Satwant Atwal, the state police chief, stated that rescue teams were dispatched to provide assistance to 40 foreign tourists who were stranded at different tourist destinations.
Among them were 14 Russians and 12 Malaysians. The deployment of these rescue teams aimed to ensure the safety and well-being of the stranded tourists during the challenging situation caused by the floods.
Additionally, several hundred Indian nationals were also in need of assistance. This mobilization was in response to the flash floods that had rendered them stranded.
Tragically, in Uttarakhand state, at least 12 individuals lost their lives, with nine fatalities occurring on Tuesday when debris fell on their vehicles along a national highway, as reported by officials.

Due to the heavy rainfall, the pilgrimage to the revered Kedarnath temple, which houses a shrine dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva, was suspended. The safety concerns prompted the temporary halt of this popular pilgrimage route.
The incessant rainfall in Punjab state has resulted in significant damage, leading to the unfortunate loss of at least 10 lives in flash floods. In Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, state officials reported that at least 11 individuals have also lost their lives in rain-related incidents.
