About New York Film Academy
Established in 1992 by renowned producer Jerry Sherlock, known for classics such as The Hunt for Red October, the New York Film Academy (NYFA) was born to democratize film education.
Practical Learning
Sherlock envisioned an institution that offered affordable education focusing on practical learning rather than theoretical approaches. The unique curriculum, developed by Sherlock and his colleagues, blends traditional film school instruction with hands-on experience, allowing students to actively participate in writing, producing, directing, and editing their films.
Acting & 3D Animation

Student Life
For students seeking dormitory-style accommodation, the New York Film Academy offers double-room options and a limited number of single rooms. These living spaces include private bathrooms, refrigerators, microwaves, WiFi, cable television, study areas, and ample storage.
Located just a short subway ride from the NYFA campus, these accommodations provide convenience. The average monthly cost for housing in the facility is $1800 per person. It’s important to note that a refundable deposit is required to secure a bed in the student residence, with the deposit amount depending on the length of stay.
Accreditation
The New York Film Academy is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). It has New York City, Los Angeles, South Beach (Florida), and Gold Coast (Australia) campuses.
NASAD establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials in art, design, and related disciplines. The association supports institutions and individuals engaged in artistic, scholarly, educational, and other art and design-related activities. NASAD is notably the only accrediting body for visual art programs recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
